Switzerland To Return $380m Stolen By Abacha To Nigeria.

Switzerland will return $380 million to Nigeria, the money that were stolen during General Sani Abacha’s presidency in the 1990s.
According to Geneva’s public prosecutor, the $380 million will be returned under the supervision of the World Bank. It would be recalled that after Sani Abacha’s death, Nigerian authorities appealed to the governments of countries to which the money had been traced – including Lichtenstein, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Luxembourg, but especially Switzerland – for mutual legal assistance in the case.
Later the Obasanjo government implicated Abacha and his family in a wholesale looting of Nigeria’s coffers. In 2002 Abacha’s family purportedly agreed to return $1.2 billion that was taken from the central bank. However, the late dictator’s son, Mohammed Abacha, continues to maintain that all the assets in question were legitimately acquired. Besides, another of Abacha’s surviving sons, Abba Sani Abacha, was implicated in criminal activity in April of 2005. He was accused of money laundering, embezzlement, and fraud, Abba was extradited to Switzerland from Germany. He was handed a one-year suspended prison sentence that was cancelled in May 2014 by Switzerland’s top court.
It is believed that more than $2bn were deposited in European banks by members of his family. Switzerland last year returned $700m to the Nigerian government after a deal was struck to end a legal dispute, $200 million had allegedly been siphoned off before reaching its destination in Nigeria’s public works projects.

Pope Francis Applauds The Bravery Of Nigerian Priests Over Boko Haram.

Pope Francis has hailed the bravery of Nigerian priests who have stood strong in the face of Boko Haram violence and worked to build bridges with the Muslim community.

The pontiff in an open letter said, "How can we fail to remember the priests, religious men and women, missionaries and catechists (lay teachers) who, despite untold sacrifices, never abandoned their flock, but remained at their service."

"I wish here to express my heartfelt thanks to you, because in the midst of so many trials and sufferings the Church in Nigeria does not cease to witness to hospitality, mercy and forgiveness," he said.

Boko Haram has seized swathes of territory in Nigeria's northeast in an Islamist insurgency that began in 2009 and has killed more than 13,000 people, displaced 1.5 million, and destroyed churches and mosques.

According to AFP, Francis slammed the militants as "people who claim to be religious, but who instead abuse religion, to make of it an ideology for their own distorted interests of exploitation and murder."

But he urged the African country's Church to continue "to favour reconciliation, to promote experiences of sharing, to extend bridges of dialogue, to serve the weakest and the excluded."

Boko Haram's violence has intensified over the six-year conflict, with attacks into Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

A four-country joint offensive against the militants, part of efforts to stabilise northeast Nigeria in time for general elections set for March 28, has claimed a string of successes in rebel-held territory in recent weeks.

Airport Cleaner Gets N7, 200 Increase In Salary For Returning N12m.

Josephine Ugwu, a National Diploma graduate of Our Saviour Institute of Science, Agriculture and Technology, Enugu, who works for Patovilki Cleaning Services, a company engaged by FAAN to keep Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos clean,  has been rewarded with a sum of N7,200 salary increment.

Ugwu who earns N7,800 before now earns N15,000. However her colleagues who spoke on her behalf have said it is a big shame that the Government heard about her noble gesture and ignored it instead of rewarding her bountifully to encourage other Nigerians to be honest.

According to a colleague some people have called her a fool for returning the N12m she found in local and foreign currencies to the owner, and now it looks like she really acted foolishly because she got no reward per say, a colleague said.

Dire Photos Shows 15 MAGGOTS Being Removed From School Girl's Gums.

A schoolgirl who went to the dentist with swollen gums was horrified when 15 maggots were removed from her mouth. Ana Cardoso, 10, was taken to the clinic after complaining about feeling a tingling sensation in her gums and things "moving around".

Stunned mum Adriana, 35, said: "She had been saying for a few days that she felt something moving around in her mouth and at first I thought she was joking.

Ana was diagnosed with a rare form of Oral Myiasis, a fly lava maggot infection that grows in humans and animals.

"We also wanted to show the girl's family what had happened and warn others."

[PHOTO] Delta Govt Jeep recovered from suspected robber en-route Cotonou.

A Toyota Landcruser belonging to the Delta State Government has been recovered from a suspected robber in the Saki, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State by the police.

It was gathered that the suspect, John Pouoro, was nabbed while driving the vehicle with suspected members of his gang across the border to the Benin Republic.

The black jeep with number plate, DT 25 B-31, was said to have been recovered by the Oyo State Police Command on March 11.

It was gathered that the suspect told the police that he was playing the role of a courier for his principal, who he identified simply as Alhaji Sokoto. Opuoro added that he was promised N150,000 for the job.

The police said the Alhaji operated a cross-border car-snatching ring from the Benin Republic.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina, said Opuoro offered bribe to the police at the spot of his arrest after other members of the gang managed to escape. He added that the car was snatched at gunpoint with the driver wounded and taken to a hospital.

He said,
“A team of policemen on foot patrol, led by Inspector Samuel Godwin, intercepted a black Landcruiser along Saki/Ilesa Baruba Road on March 11 this year.
“The cross-border robber, accompanied by other members of the gang, now at large, attempted to transport the vehicle to the Benin Republic where a notorious receiver, identified as Alhaji, was waiting to collect it.
“Opuoro, tried to bribe the police when he was arrested. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint in Delta State. Efforts have been put in place to apprehend the rest of the gang. If they had succeeded, they would have sold the car back to Nigeria as a fairly-used car.”
Speaking with Punch Metro, Opuoro said,
“I was in Lagos when Alhaji Sokoto, who I met in January this year, called me from Cotonou. He said a car was on its way from Delta and that I should bring it to Cotonou. But he later told me to collect the car in Ore. I took it from one Emeka in Ore.
“On my way, I was tired and while sleeping somewhere, the police came and arrested me. I’ve once helped Alhaji to drive a car to Cotonou.”

Basketmouth has thrown some type of shade WizKid’s way, indicating that the super star might be a very person to work with.

He said all this jokingly though. He went on to praise Olamide, stating that Badoo didn’t give him any stress.

Here’s what he said: “Wizkid is just something else. Olamide is phenomenal. I’ll speak from the bottom of my heart, thank you Olamide; the guy did not give me one single stress. I’m not saying Wizkid gave me stress but you know what I mean”.

My Husband is the Messiah - Patience Jonathan.

Nigeria's first lady, Patience Jonathan on Tuesday in Ilorin, Kwara State, said her husband was the messiah, telling Nigerian women not to vote for Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).She said..
“Nigerian women, if they (APC) come, tell them that your mother said you should not listen to them. They have nothing to offer. They have nothing to give you, Nigerian women; because the battle has already been conquered, God has opened the way for us. God has brought down the messiah for us. And PDP is the messiah. Goodluck is the messiah,”
Telling  Buhari to leave politics and governance to younger people. She continued..
“I am a person that will tell the truth. I will not abuse people, but if you are old you are old, so leave it to younger people,”
The President’s wife likened the opposition APC to an “expired and adulterated drug” and urged the Nigerian electorate not to vote for the party, saying it could lead to their death.

She said God had told her that the APC would lose the general elections rescheduled for March 28 and April 11 general elections.
“What are we going to take expired drug to do? Have you seen anywhere where APC cured any person? If you vote and drink it and die, it is not my business. Do not go near APC. It is an expired drug and an adulterated drug.”
Patience also cautioned APC leaders against making its campaign to clash with that of the PDP. She accused the APC of deliberately planning the political events of Aishat Buhari, the wife of the APC presidential candidate, to coincide with her own rally in order to create an atmosphere for violence between the two camps.
“PDP is not shaken; as far as we are there, there is no need for trouble. You know that Mama Peace, your mother, is peace-loving, so the children must also be peace-loving. Women are peace makers and no woman that makes trouble is worth to be called a woman.
“Before I went to Edo State, the APC was there, all to make trouble. I have always been telling them that they like to make trouble. I wanted to go to Edo, they were there. Why? To make trouble. I wanted to come to Kwara, they were there. Why? To make trouble. As I was coming today at the airport, they were also coming so that there would be trouble but I told my security people that I am a mother of peace, so let them go in peace. We, wives of political leaders should not make trouble, so even if they come to you to make trouble, don’t fall for their tricks.
Patience added
, “Kwara is PDP. They only stole the mandate because the Government House they are occupying today is in the name of PDP. We shall take it over. Everyday they change from one name to another and very soon they will change to Ebola and then death will come. My God that I serve has told me that they will fail. So don’t be deceived, don’t listen to their lies.
“There is office for wife of President but they were saying there is none. But soon they brought one ‘Hajia’ as wife of the President and she is now saying, ‘don’t worry, my husband made a mistake, we shall make provisions as necessary.’ Don’t believe what they are saying, hold to what you have because it is better than what you are yet to see.”

What Buhari's wife have to say about the APC's trademark broom.

Mrs. Aisha Buhari, wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it is important to educate the party’s supporters about the broom, the symbol and logo of APC.

Aisha disclosed this on Monday, during her courtesy visit to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state as part of her two-day Citizen Outreach and Town hall meeting in in the state, Daily Trust reports.

She was accompanied by wife of the vice-presidential candidate, Mrs. Oludolapo Osinbajo, wife of Nassarawa Governor, Hajia Salamat Al-Makura, National Women leader of APC, Hajia Ramat Tijani Aliyu, among others.

According to her, the masses, which include illiterate and rural people who have no access to the television and the social media, were the major supporters of the APC and they needed to be educated about APC logo.

She recalled that a lot of the people that are in APC came from other political parties where they chanted different slogans.

“The illiterate can hardly identify where they are now.

“So it is so important for us to educate the electorate about the broom (the APC logo). Our major supporters are the masses; masses, masses and masses especially knowing the presidential candidate of the mega party. He was in ANPP, then CPC and now APC which is not easy for people that are not literate to identify it easily”.

She added that the upcoming elections revolve around women who according to her constitute 55 per cent of registered voters and they must be educated on how to vote.

In his response, Gov Ahmed said he and other former mambers of the PDP who defected, left because they realized the PDP lacked the capability pf taking Nigerians to the promised land.

“Today, Nigeria has one of the highest rates of out-of-school children. Today, very few Nigerians can feed more than one dollar a day. We can’t continue like this. We must see a process that ushered in change,” he said.

Aisha has been playing a major role in her husband’s presidential campaign. In February, she and Mrs Osinbajo had stormed Owerri, the Imo State capital for the party’s South East women.

Naija troops kick out Boko Haram from another town.

Just two weeks before the presidential election, the Nigerian army on Monday recaptured the northeastern city of Bama in Borno state from members of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Reuters reports.
Bama has been under the control of the Islamist terrorists since September last year as the sect continued its six-year-old insurgency to establish an Islamic state.

In the past few months, the sect’s campaign grew stronger even as they started encroaching into neighbouring countries like Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

However, following intensive counter-strikes launched by a combination of Chad and Niger troops over the frontier into Nigerian territory, especially around Lake Chad, and the alleged involvement of hundreds of mercenaries, the sect grew weaker overnight

It was also reported that the arrival of new equipment has also helped boost soldiers’ morale in the fight against insurgency in the northern part of the country.

Boko Haram started its onslaught against the Nigerian government in 2009. The sect’s activities have plagued the country’s economy in the northern states affected.

The initial inability of the Nigerian soldiers to dismantle the Islamic militants, who have killed thousands, abducted over 200 female students from Chibok, Borno state as well as displaced many thousands of people, became an embarrassment to President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Bama is about 60 km (40 miles) southeast of the state capital Maiduguri. A security source said the fight for Bama started since last week and began making headway over the weekend.

Borno, which is considered the heartland of the insurgency, has witnessed several destructive attacks that have left many residents dead with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

However, the Nigerian government has warned that the scattered Boko Haram members might regroup and start attacking ‘soft targets.’

Recall that the federal government postponed the elections by six weeks to enable the military to flush out the sect, in order to have hitch free polls on March 28 and April 11.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram militants were successfully ejected from Adamawa and Yobe states recently, according to defence headquarters

Earlier, the general officer commanding 7th Division of the Nigerian army, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, claimed that despite problems, the insurgency will not overcome the Nigerian armed forces.

A victim of PDP touts.

We all know election is a period of disorderly conducts, Unfortunately the ruling party unleashed a set of miscreants or so called supporters to roam around the street of Lagos to do God knows what and unsurprisingly they used that opportunity to rob people and vandalize cars.

We are not saying they should not unleash their miscreants into the street of Lagos but they should do that without violence, they are not doing themselves any favour doing this.

Ibrahimovic might be banned for insulting France.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has apologized over his outburst, after Sunday night’s 3-2 loss at Bordeaux.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker, was not happy with some of the referee’s decisions and while talking to the fourth official, he appeared to have said: “F–ing wake up — we’re not playing in the amateurs. Wake up! I have never seen that in 15 years in my career, such a referee in this s— country. [You] don’t even deserve PSG to be in this country.”

Ibrahimovic has now apologized, after the French Sports Minister asked him to, after the video went viral on the social media.

He said: “Regarding my comments after tonight’s game: they were not against France or the French people. I spoke about football. I lost the game, I accept that, but I can’t accept when the referee doesn’t follow the rules. It’s not the first time, and I’m sick of it. My sincere apologies if anyone was offended, or took it the wrong way.”

The Swede, who recently completed a two-game ban for his face-off with a Saint-Etienne player, is likely to be sanctioned for his latest rant.

Ex-Nigeria coach dies at 79

The Nigeria football family has again been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nigerian coach, Willy Bazuaye, who passed away Monday at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City.

Bazuaye, who shot into limelight after leading the Nigeria U17 team, the Golden Eaglets, to win the World Cup at their level in China in 1985, was terribly ill in his last days, PREMIUM TIMES gathered.

Aside his feat at the China 85 World Cup, Bazuaye also has his name etched on the sands of time as he was part of the backroom staff as an assistant coach when the Nigeria under-23 team made history at the Atlanta Olympic Games, emerging the first African country to win the gold medal in the football event.

It is unclear if paucity of funds played any role in Bazuaye’s death as in the course of the past week, there was an appeal on social media for financial help from his son.
He said his father was rejected at the hospital due to a lack of funds.

Until his death, Bazuaye always lent his voice to football issues and his last major public appearance was on the celebrity segment of the “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” television show two years ago.
